Policy for commercial activity on lists
oz-Teachernet is committed to providing an online community for educators through its numerous email lists and online projects. Consequently oz-Teachernet does not allow its lists and online services to be subject to commercial activities. From April 1, 2008, a new trial system which allows commercial posts will be put in place. Advertisers will require the prior approval of the administrator and will be asked to pay related fees as applicable.
What commercial activity is allowed for free?
Contributions to the email lists or other online oz-teachernet interactions that include information announcements, giveaways, job advertisements from individual schools and educational authorities (not private employment agencies) and announcements from those seeking work. Teacher professional associations may advertise (i) conferences, and (ii) workshops or seminars which are free to members. Where fees are commonly charged, apart from annual conferences, then the message becomes commercial in nature.
- The post is a "one-off" but up to two follow-up reminders will be allowed, for example, a conference may initially just advise its title, theme, location and date and then follow-up with a call for papers and information about registration.
- These messages will be prefaced with Info: in the subject line
- The intended post should be sent initially to admin@oz-teachernet.edu.au for approval and forwarding to the list. You must include full contact details in your submission to admin@oz-teachernet.edu.au.
- There will be no charge for this service but failure to send the intended posting to admin@oz-teachernet.edu.au for approval will attract an additional penalty charge of $150 (see below).
- oz-teachers reserves the right to refuse information postings which are not specifically related to the education sector or which do not specifically relate to the effective use of ICT in the classroom.
What commercial activity is not free?
Contributions to the email lists or other online oz-teachernet interactions that are potentially commercial in nature and are not listed in the previous exemptions will attract a fee of $150. This includes commercial activity from profit and non-profit organisations such as schools, professional associations, education systems and individuals.
- The post is a one off post and will be prefaced with Ad: in the subject line
- A limit of one advertisement per month per organisation will be allowed.
- The intended post should be sent initially to admin@oz-teachernet.edu.au for approval and forwarding to the list. You must include full contact details in your submission to admin@oz-teachernet.edu.au.
- An invoice will be raised for $150 and sent following approval of the posting. The post will be forwarded on receipt of payment.
- Failure to send the intended posting to admin@oz-teachernet.edu.au for approval will attract a penalty charge of $300.
- oz-teachers reserves the right to refuse commercial postings which are not specifically related to the education sector or which do not specifically relate to the effective use of ICT in the classroom.
What if I post commercial content without prior approval?
Commercial "Ad" messages will be billed for $300 if you post content that is not approved or sent via the oz-teachernet administrator. Information "Info" messages will be billed for $150 for infringement.
